Passing the Baton – Changes on the Board of SAPETRO

In a significant transition, at the South Atlantic Petroleum Limited (SAPETRO) Board of Directors meeting on December 6, 2023, Lt. Gen. Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (Rtd), our founder and long-standing Chairman, announced his retirement after years of dedicated service. Senator Daisy Ehanire Danjuma succeeds him as the new Chairman of the Board, effective immediately.

Since founding SAPETRO in 1995, Gen. T.Y. Danjuma has been the guiding force behind the company’s remarkable achievements. Under his stewardship, SAPETRO discovered key fields such as Akpo, Egina, and Preowei, completed two pioneering deepwater projects, and commissioned two groundbreaking floating production, storage, and offloading vessels (FPSOs), including the world-renowned Egina FPSO which holds the title of the world’s largest FPSO.

Senator Daisy Danjuma, transitioning from her role as Executive Vice Chairman to Executive Chairman, brings a wealth of experience to her new position as Executive Chairman. Her distinguished legal career spans over 40 years, beginning as a State Counsel in the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, followed by roles at the Legal Aid Council, at Nigerian Acceptances Limited (now NAL Merchant Bank), and as the Company Secretary and Legal Adviser to the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

Her political career includes serving as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from 2003 to 2007, where she made significant contributions through her leadership in various committees including the Women and Child Rights Committee of ECOWAS, and as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Women Affairs and Youth Development as well as a member of the Senate Committees on Health, Education, Finance, Land, and Transport, and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA).

An esteemed alumnus of Lagos Business School (LBS), Senator Daisy Danjuma is also a member of the International Bar Association, the Nigerian Bar Association, and the International Federation of Female Lawyers (FIDA). She is currently the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the H I D Awolowo Foundation, a Member of the Board of Trustees of Women at Risk International Foundation (WARIF), the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Lagos Public Interest Law Partnership (LPILP), and the Chairman of May & Baker Nigeria Plc.

In addition, we are pleased to welcome Mr. Ishaya Danjuma and Mr. Theo Danjuma to the Board as non-executive directors. Mr. Ishaya Danjuma, with his experience serving on various company boards including Central Realties and Pleaidex, and as a director at TY Holdings Limited and Unitrust Insurance Company Limited, brings valuable insights. Mr. Theo Danjuma, a University of Nottingham graduate with a BA Honours in History and Politics, also joins the Board, adding a fresh perspective to our leadership.

This transition marks not only the end of an era but also the promise of a future guided by capable hands. As we embrace these changes, we remain committed to upholding our values and driving SAPETRO towards greater success.
